MUTINY is a collective of queer and trans barbers focused on gender affirming haircuts. We all operate as our own individual LLCs, split business costs, and make shop decisions as a group.
We created this space with our community in mind. We expect it to continually shift and grow. We welcome conversation around need, accountability, and safety as we are committed to better serving our community.
Code OF CONDUCT
We at Mutiny commit to the following safer space philosophy/code of conduct and ask that our clients, and their guests, do too.
We stand against any form of:
Racism
Transphobia
Sexism
Islamophobia
Antisemitism
Zionism (is separate from being Jewish. Zionism is racist and based in settler colonialism and ethnic cleansing.)
Fatphobia
Or other discriminatory language/actions.
Meaning, should anyone say something that falls into any of the categories above, we will tell them directly. We’ll do so in the moment so that everyone in the space who had to hear the statement also hears us saying it is not okay.
If a person is not receptive to the call-in, the barber may stop the service without regard to where they are in the haircut and/or deny future services to individuals, depending on the situation.
Mutiny approaches accountability on a case by case basis and there is no one size fits all response. We aim to practice restorative justice and make decisions about what it looks like together during a debrief conversation.
Mutiny barbers hold each other to these values as well.
Along with our clients, we all deserve a space free from harm.
